Fake Report – User reporting policy violation in Facebook Apps

It is both good and bad that Facebook provides a way for users to report spammy FB apps.

However, as a Facebook developer that does not intent to break the TOS, I find that all the reports that I received are actually all invalid!

As an example, below is a report that I received today:

Dear App Developer,

A Facebook user requested that we forward an anonymous report that your app xxxxx_app_name_xxxx (app ID #NNNNNNNNNNNNN is violating Facebook Policy.  The user selected “” as the violation category.  Any additional text that the user provided appears here:

[[ Begin User Text ]]

[[ End User Text ]]

To protect the privacy of our users, we cannot disclose any further information.  Facebook is not taking any action against your app based on this particular report, but we are passing this along so you are made aware of potential problems and respond accordingly to ensure you are in compliance.  Please note that failure to comply with Facebook policy may result in an enforcement action.

If you have any issues or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly by using the Developer Contact Form at: http://www.facebook.com/developers/developer_help.php

By looking at this report, I really don’t know why the user reports me!

I think Facebook should provide a way for the developers to report “invalid report”.  This is to make sure we get a clean record for our app – especially when we don’t know how the autobot works.

I agree with you. I think this is an unfair competition action from other apps’ developers. I’ve got this several times.
