Facebook says “bugs were by design” – What does that mean?

If you have read the latest Facebook Platform Updates: Operation Developer Love carefully, you should probably have noticed the following statistically figure:

Bug Activity from 12/13 to 12/20

  • 253 bugs were reported
  • 60 bugs were reproducible and accepted (after duplicates removed)
  • 42 bugs were by design
  • 19 bugs were fixed
  • 116 bugs were duplicate, invalid, or need more information

This is the first time that I notice Facebook give a figure on “bugs were by design”.  I do understand that for SDK, development platform, systems etc, there are cases where “bugs” in users’ eyes are actually “expected by design”.  I am totally fine with that.

However, my question is that how can I get the list of bugs that are treated as “by design”.  Knowing these reported cases may be useful as they tell us in what ways we should not use the Facebook platform for.  Probably the team may be providing some explanation on how they expect Facebook developers to use the platform.
